Last time out France became the second team to secure qualification from this year's group stage, whilst DR Congo and South Africa bowed out. The other five teams are set up for a very close finish:
Whilst the top seeds in each of our two groups today are in a great position to progress, defeats for the second seeds mean that things could get tighter today. Let's see how they go.
Group G
Things are looking very rosy for Spain, as they beat second seeds Argentina and the other two teams in the group - South Korea and Honduras - played out a draw that felt like it would have ended 0-0 if it had been played over a week:
Argentina vs South Korea
Argentina will still expect to qualify by beating South Korea and Honduras, but they are walking a tightrope as any defeat will dump them out. South Korea were clearly the better team against Honduras but were stonewalled. Can they try and frustrate Argentina similarly?
Despite losing their opener, and despite Jaminton Campaz's goal off the bench, Argentina are unchanged. For South Korea, Seol Jung-Woo replaces Matej Jonjic.

South Korea show some early promise in evading Argentina's high press, but Kang-In Lee can't keep it wide on the right. Argentina come forward and Lionel Messi switches it to Esequiel Barco who plays it first-time into the path of Manuel Lanzini charging up from midfield. South Korea are stretched and Lanzini pulls it back for Edinson Cavani to tuck away! A very fluent goal, and Argentina are off and running after under 100 seconds!
Cavani was starved of service against Spain, but he has another chance straight away from Luis Advíncula's through ball, his powerful shot is tipped over by Yang Han Been. Barco has a shot deflected just wide from the corner, as Argentina look to make the most of this excellent start. Martin Ádám has a header saved at the other end as South Korea try to retaliate.
Argentina earn a corner, and I know what you're thinking: "Watch out for Messi in the air!" Well, you'd be right to, as Hong Jeong-Ho's clearance comes out to the magician he heads it over Yang but only hits the bar!
South Korea begin to get more possession and Argentina have fewer chances. But towards the end of the half the South Americans step it up again. Advíncula has two shots saved by Yang, and from one of the corners Barco had a close-range chance but fires wide from a tight angle. From the other South Korea are again penned in, and Messi ends up with the ball on the edge of the box. He tries to curl it into the bottom corner but Yang is there again, tipping it onto the post!
South Korea survive, and build an attack of their own. Kim Jin-Su hits a deep cross towards Jesse Lingard, and the referee sees a shove by Lingard's former Manchester United teammate Marcos Rojo, and awards the penalty! Out of nowhere, Ádám has the chance to haul South Korea level... and smashes it down the middle and in!
There's still time for Yang to produce another save - from Lanzini this time - and for Alexis Mac Allister to volley wide from the corner. But we go in all square... somehow.

The second half has an easier start for South Korea than the first, and Argentina begin to look a little nervy at their precarious position. Messi continues to battle away, hitting the woodwork yet again with a vicious free kick, whilst Ádám has two headers go close.
Advíncula yet again is given the space to shoot - I guess it's easy to find space when you're on the same flank as Messi - and yet again Yang makes a diving stop. The final stages of the match arrive... and go. Neither team has a single shot after 80 minutes, and we have our first draw this tournament for 16 matches.

Final score:
Argentina 1 (Cavani 2')
South Korea 1 (Ádám (p) 44')
Player of the match: Manuel Lanzini (ARG)
For me, the player of the match was clearly Yang. Anyway, South Korea did indeed manage to frustrate Argentina in a similar way to Honduras against them. For all Argentina's dominance in the first half, they fell short in the second half as they were left torn between pushing for a winner and not wanting to risk another sucker-punch.

Honduras vs Spain
The big four teams in this tournament have won 7/7 matches so far, and if Spain make it eight they would not just qualify for the knockout stages but they would also win the group a match early. A defeat won't be critical for Honduras but would mean they would need to beat Argentina in their final game.
Honduras keep the same XI, looking for another quality defensive display. But Spain do alter things, as Joao Cancelo and José Gaya come in as more attacking full backs than Éder Militao and David Alaba.

Honduras adopt a similar shape as against South Korea, with their two banks of four and Alberth Elis dropping deep to man-mark Eduardo Camavinga. Spain, as you may guess, are patient with the ball and it's a quiet opening ten minutes. But eventually Spain manouvre the ball from the right flank across to Vinícius Júnior on the left. Wilmer Crisanto isn't tight enough, and Vinícius bends the ball inside the far post to give Spain the lead!
Straight after Cancelo curls a shot just over, whilst Robert Lewandowski has a close-range effort bravely blocked by Juan Pablo Montes. Antoine Griezmann flashes a shot wide, and it really feels like more goals are a matter of time away. And lo and behold, Luka Modric plays a ball over the top for Vinícius and he fizzes a low ball across to give Griezmann a tap-in! This is looking like a very long match for Honduras now.
Five minutes later and Modric wins a battle with Johnny Leverón on the right to get his cross in. Lewandowski is waiting at the far post and calmly nods it down into the bottom corner! Spain are now even scoring route one goals.
Griezmann has a series of free kick shots, but they don't trouble José Mendoza and at the break it remains 3-0.

Romell Quioto is brought off for defensive midfielder Nahún Ávila as Honduras give up any pretence of attacking. Spain meanwhile take off Antonio Rudiger after he had suffered a slight groin strain in the first half, and bring on Alaba. The Austrian gets involved straight away with a long range free kick just over the bar.
Alaba starts a move ten minutes into the half that culminates in Vinícius cutting it back to Jude Bellingham out wide, and his cross finds the diminutive Griezmann whose low header is in!
It's not a great sign for Honduras, but Spanish chances aren't coming as readily as in the first half. Lewandowski goes close with a speculative looping header, but is soon replace by Gerard Moreno who makes his DWC bow. Meanwhile Honduras are dealt a further kick in the teeth as Éder Delgado is forced off injured. Sub striker Jerry Bengtson also picks up a knock, but before it can be decided whether he needs to come off, the final whistle is blown. As far as damage limitation goes, it wasn't a bad effort from Honduras in the second half.

Without wishing to stereotype, I think the Spanish had a siesta during the second half. It doesn't matter, the damage was more than done by that point. Honduras did their best, and limiting Spain to slightly over 2xG is decent, all things considered.

Congratulations to Spain, and their dominant position might just benefit South Korea. With Spain needing nothing from their final game, they may well play their second string, giving South Korea a bit more chance. But if Spain keep up their free-scoring form, Argentina could somehow qualify just by drawing with Honduras.
Group H
Dominican Republic's debut saw them lose 3-1 to Brazil in a very creditable showing. The other match in this group was a thriller. Hungary lead the much-vaunted Saudi Arabia 3-1, before Cristiano Ronaldo got one back. Given a late penalty to secure a point, Ronaldo's effort was saved, and now Saudi Arabia have it all to do:
Saudi Arabia vs Dominican Republic
Absolutely nothing less than a win will do here for Saudi Arabia. They ideally want a big win, not least because their opponents are the lowest-ranked to make the DWC, but also because if Saudi Arabia are to escape this group it may well be on goal difference. Dominican Republic meanwhile can continue to play without expectations, which has served them pretty well so far.
Saudi Arabia go big, bringing in Ronaldo to play alongside Karim Benzema in a 4-2-4. Édouard Mendy, Saud Abdulhamid and Rúben Neves also come in to make it a veritable raft of changes. Despite their substitutes delivering a goal against Brazil, Dominican Republic are unchanged.

If anything, Dominican Republic look comfortable in the opening quarter of an hour. Riyad Mahrez has a shot from range go safely wide. Antonio Santurro goes long with the goal kick, and Heinz Morschel beats Kalidou Koulibaly to it to flick it into the path of Mariano. His first touch isn't ideal, allowing N'Golo Kanté to get back and cover, but Mariano surprises both Kanté and Mendy with an early chip. It clears the keeper... but it also just clears the bar! A brilliant effort, and nearly a goal to stun everybody!
A shock like that might just be what Saudi Arabia need. They get onto the front foot, and Abdulhamid finds Mahrez in space on the right. He gets through the challenge of Yair Ibarguen and places his shot home from a tight angle! It's great play, but the assistant has his flag up! VAR checks, and confirms that Mahrez had just strayed offside.
Chances remain at a premium for Saudi Arabia, but 35 minutes in a corner loops up invitingly for Ronaldo. He easily out-jumps Alejandro Balde, his header is over Santurro but against the crossbar! It may not go down as a big chance, but given his aerial prowess it certainly was.
Five minutes later and the woodwork is rattling again, as Neymar cracks a superb 35-yard free kick against the post. The rebound comes towards Ronaldo, but he somehow puts it wide with Santurro stranded! Another big miss, and we get to half time goalless.

Saudi Arabia need to avoid panicking, but they are close to being in trouble. Koulibaly makes way for Alex Telles, with Aymeric Laporte moving into central defence. It doesn't seem like a tournament-changing substitution, but within three minutes of the restart Alex Telles whips in a wicked corner and Laporte is there to head it down and in! Relief all round, but disappointment for Dominican Republic who fought so well for the first half only to concede a simple set piece goal.
As Dominican Republic try to reply Benzema intercepts a pass between the centre backs. Julio César Murillo does a good job of shepherding him wide, but Benzema is able to wriggle into a bit of space and square it to Neves to stroke in! Just like that, Saudi Arabia are two goals to the good in the opening five minutes of the half!
Benzema tries to get in on the scoring himself, but Santurro gets a good hand to his shot. Mahrez is given space at a corner to pick his spot, but his effort curls slightly too late and hits the post. Neves must have taken notes, because when a free kick comes to him he tries an identical shot, and he finds the top corner!
Dominican Republic switch to a 5-3-2, with goalscorer last time Gustavo Azcona on, as they try and take advantage of gaps left by Saudi Arabia, with often just Merih Demiral left at the back. Balde picks out Azcona with a pass down the line, he cuts inside but is denied by the fingertips of Mendy.
In the 73rd minute a neat passing move between Alex Telles and Neves leads to the latter playing in Neymar on the left of the box. He dances inside, Dominican Republic can't get close to him and he drills his shot into the bottom corner! A lovely goal, and the bad news for Dominican Republic is that Saudi Arabia will want more.
The good news is that a late onslaught doesn't arrive, in fact the game drifts along to its conclusion with substitutions disrupting its rhythm.

Final score:
Saudi Arabia 4 (Laporte 48', Neves 50', 62', Neymar 73')
Dominican Republic 0
Player of the match: Rúben Neves (KSA)
In the end it's the performance and result Saudi Arabia were after. They had the ball in the final third enough that you would have expected their world class players to be able to force the ball over the line eventually, and so it proved. Dominican Republic were a bit less bright than against Brazil, but they were by no means embarrassed here.

Brazil vs Hungary
With Saudi Arabia winning, it is only Hungary who have the chance to qualify today. Dominican Republic will be eliminated unless Brazil win. With Saudi Arabia to face last, Brazil will be keen to avoid defeat so that they stay ahead of the Asian champions and would just need a draw.
No changes for Brazil, but for Hungary they are forced into one, as talismanic midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai twisted his ankle against Saudi Arabia and will miss at least the group stage. Kristoffer Zachariassen is his replacement.

It's not the ideal start for Brazil as within the opening five minutes Gabriel Jesus picks up a pulled hamstring. He can carry on, but doesn't; Pedro comes on. Meanwhile Hungary nearly add to the misery as Marquinhos has an effort crash off the post before Adama Traoré forces Weverton into a save.
Pedro doesn't have to wait long for a big chance, as Douglas Santos picks him out with a cracking low cross. Pedro doesn't get enough on it, and Dénes Dibusz is able to bat it behind. Hungary's keeper is on hand to deny Nino from the corner too. A corner at the other end sees Willi Orbán go very close when free at the near post.
Pedro has a header saved, and later Dudu looks certain to score when Douglas Santos' shot is deflected straight to him, but Eldar Civic makes a heroic block! Civic is soon the villain though, as he plays a weak backpass to Dibusz, and Dudu is onto it. Dibusz himself is far too slow to come out and close the angle, but despite that Dudu manages to hit it straight at the keeper! That's a shocking miss!
It's been a wild opening half hour, but incredible still goalless. Giorgian De Arrascaeta twice has shots from the edge of the box held by Dibusz, as Brazil begin to look the likelier team. But the chances dry up, and we reach half time 0-0.

Brazil are on the front foot straight from the kick off. De Arrascaeta plays a one-two with Pedro before playing it back to Douglas Santos. He taps it sideways to Bruno Guimaraes and his shot flashes past Dibusz and in! For the second time the Newcastle man gets on the scoresheet!
Hungary unleash some swashbuckling play to pin Brazil back. Sammie Szmodics gets the ball in quite a bit of space and bends a shot past Weverton but against the post! They get another chance a few minutes later on the counter, as Tokmac Nguen plays a delicious crossfield pass to find Traoré all on his own on the left. He does his job well, driving into the box and cutting it back to Marquinhos. He shoots hard and low but Weverton denies him - it comes back to Traoré who repeats his pass back to Marquinhos, and this time his shot gets past Weverton and goes in! It's a brilliant goal from Hungary's forwards... but the flag is up! In real time I thought Traoré was off, and VAR confirms that he was. No goal.
Brazil survive that storm, and control the match towards its end. Douglas Santos has been effervescant today and nearly gets a deserved goal with a shot over the bar, but at the other end Nino misses a header and Zachariassen gets onto it. He shoots early, and whilst it's past Weverton it's over the bar.
Hungary have ebbed and flowed in this game, and right now they're... er, whichever one is the good one? Anyway, they're suddenly overwhelming Brazil with numbers forward. Substitute Boschilia finds Szmodics in the box, Thiago Silva can't get goal-side of the midfielder and he buries his shot past Weverton! Hungary level, and this time it counts!
There's still at least five minutes left for more drama, and straight away a Brazil free kick is headed high up in the air. Nino is underneath it, but he can only nod it over the bar. Two Brazilian subs have a go; Hulk's free kick is deflected behind and Wendel's whipped shot is well held by Dibusz. Wendel has another go right at the end of stoppage time, and it's a better effort but again Hungary's keeper is across to tip it behind! The corner is dealt with, and that's full time - what a great match!

Final score:

Dominican Republic 1 (Szmodics 86')
Player of the match: Douglas Santos (BRA)
That match could have been any score. Brazil were the better team but kept conceding clear chances whilst missing their own gilt-edged opportunities so they can't really grumble. Hungary have now taken on two very strong teams and come out unbeaten.

Hungary now just need to avoid defeat to Dominican Republic to qualify, which you would expect they would do. That means Brazil and Saudi Arabia are all set for a titanic clash to join them.
Spain may be through, but we have three teams with big names who are deep in the mire. I'm really looking forward to the final round of games, and they'll be along soon, starting as always with Groups A & B.
